Road, Sidewalks, Lanes
Road Maintenance
Each season brings different responsibilities for our Operations team. From snow removal to pothole patching, we work year-round to maintain safe and accessible roads, sidewalks, and lanes.
During any roadwork, please watch for temporary no-parking signs and traffic interruption notices. To stay informed, sign up for alerts through the Westlock Regional Notification System: Connect.
Sidewalk Maintenance
Safe and accessible sidewalks support walkability and mobility throughout Westlock.
The Town is responsible for maintaining sidewalks on public property, including:
- Trip hazard repairs (grinding or replacement)
- Major cracks or uplift caused by infrastructure or tree roots
- Seasonal inspections and priority repairs
Lane (Alley) Maintenance
Gravel lanes provide important access to garages, garbage pickup points, and utility infrastructure.
The Town maintains gravel lanes through:
- Annual grading to reduce ruts and potholes
- Spot repairs as needed throughout the year
- Vegetation management to keep lanes clear
Please note: Lanes are for access only. Parking in back lanes can obstruct service vehicles and is discouraged.
Residents can help by:
- Keeping personal property out of the lanes
- Reporting major damage or drainage concerns through Report a Concern
Streetlights & Power Boxes
FortisAlberta owns and maintains all streetlights and power boxes in Westlock.
To report a burnt-out streetlight or damaged power box:
- Call 310-WIRE (310-9473)
- Or submit a request online
Fortis will dispatch a Power Line Technician for the repair.
To report issues on Highways 44 and 18, contact LaPrairie Works at 1-800-828-3908 or or 1-780-332-4452.
While the Town of Westlock maintains most roads within town limits, Highway 18 and Highway 44 are managed by LaPrairie Works, under contract with the Province of Alberta.
