Public Art in Westlock

Public art brings colour, character and local stories into the places we share. Guided by the Town’s Public Art Master Plan, Westlock supports public art that celebrates our community, strengthens local identity and creates welcoming spaces for residents and visitors.

Supporting Local Murals

The Town of Westlock is supporting the creation of murals that add vibrancy to our community and showcase local creativity.

Murals can transform highly visible walls and gathering places into community landmarks. They can also help tell Westlock’s stories, celebrate our people and heritage, enhance local businesses and contribute to an inviting streetscape.

We welcome opportunities to work with local artists, property owners, businesses and community organizations interested in bringing mural projects to life.

Utility Box Public Art Project

In 2025, the Town transformed several utility boxes into colourful works of public art. Created by Alberta-based artists and the Town’s Communications Team, the vinyl wraps celebrate Westlock’s agricultural roots, heritage, recreation and community spirit.

The completed works demonstrate how everyday infrastructure can become a canvas for local storytelling and creativity.

About the Project

Part of the Town's Public Art Master Plan, adopted by Council in late 2024, this initiative aims to:

  • Honour Westlock's heritage and people
  • Create a strong sense of place and identity
  • Support a vibrant, welcoming community.

All installed art was reviewed against the project guidelines and the Town's Public Art Policy.
