OLD BUSINESS

Junior Firefighter Program Policy P-113-2025

• Council adopted the updated Junior Firefighter Program Policy. The new policy strengthens safety controls, clarifies restricted activities, and introduces mentorship and academic credit opportunities. It provides a clear framework to support youth interested in fire and emergency service careers while prioritizing safety and supervision.

Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy P-112-2025

• Council adopted the Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy which incorporated provisions on domestic violence in the workplace and repealed Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy P-94-2021. This policy reaffirms the Town’s commitment to a safe, respectful, and healthy work environment.

NEW BUSINESS

Cemetery Bylaw 2020-17, Amendment Bylaw 2025-14

• Council gave third reading and adopted amendments to the Cemetery Bylaw. The updates clarify the process for monument permits and set clear guidelines for the placement of memorial benches and trees, addressing operational challenges experienced in past installations.

Chief Administrative Officer Bylaw 2020-13, Amendment Bylaw 2025-15

• Council gave third reading and adopted amendments to the Chief Administrative Officer Bylaw, following a review conducted during the annual performance process.

Fire Prevention Week Proclamation - October 5 - 11, 2025

• Council proclaimed October 5–11, 2025, as Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme, “Charge Into Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” highlights safe use and storage practices. The Town of Westlock Fire Department will host its annual Open House and Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, October 11.

Small Business Week Proclamation - October 19 - 25, 2025

• Council proclaimed October 19–25, 2025, as Small Business Week. This national event celebrates the resilience, innovation, and contributions of entrepreneurs. The Town will recognize the week by featuring a Small Business Showcase Series on its website and social media, spotlighting local businesses that make Westlock a great place to live and work.

Aspendale Area Structure Plan Update

• Council resolved to amend the operating budget to allocate additional funds for the updates to the Aspendale Area Structure Plan (ASP).
