Land Development
Whether you're developing a single parcel or a larger subdivision, the Town of Westlock is here to guide you through every step of the land development process. From rezoning and subdivision to permitting and approvals, we’re committed to making the process clear, efficient, and supportive of your vision—and our community’s growth.
Rezoning (Land Use Bylaw Amendment)
Rezoning is often the first step in land development. If your project doesn’t align with the current zoning, you’ll need to apply for a Land Use Bylaw amendment. This process ensures development fits within Westlock’s long-term plans and surrounding land uses.
Subdivision
Subdivision is the process of dividing a parcel of land into smaller lots. This may be required for new developments or to create individual titles for sale. All subdivisions must comply with the Municipal Government Act, the Town’s Municipal Development Plan, and the Land Use Bylaw.
Development Permits
Once zoning and subdivision are confirmed, you’ll need a Development Permit for most types of construction or changes in land use. This ensures that your project meets local planning and design regulations.
Notice of Development Permit Decisions
As part of our commitment to transparency, recent decisions on Development Permit applications are posted publicly for review.
Infrastructure & Servicing
Proper servicing and infrastructure planning is essential for successful development. We encourage you to connect with Planning & Development early to discuss servicing needs, access, and integration with Town infrastructure.
