Whether you're starting a new venture, expanding your footprint, or revitalizing an existing site, our incentives are designed to reduce your costs and encourage long-term success.

Business Signage Grant

Program Status: Accepting Applications

The Business Signage Grant helps offset the cost of new or updated permanent exterior signage.

  • Covers 50% of eligible project costs, up to $5,000 per business
  • Open to businesses within Westlock’s Commercial, Downtown, or Industrial districts
  • Applications open each year on March 1 and remain open until September 30 or until funds are allocated

Eligible costs include:

  • Professional sign design
  • Permit fees
  • Labour and materials for sign fabrication and installation

Apply early—funding is limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Non-Residential Tax Incentive

Program Status: 2026 Applications due December 31

Designed for developers and property owners investing in new builds, expansions, or major refurbishments, this incentive offers tax savings on eligible improvements.

  • Minimum new assessment of $250,000 (new construction) or $50,000 (renovation/expansion)
  • Tax exemption applies only to the increased assessed value
  • Exemption available for up to three years, depending on project size
  • Must comply with all permits and be free of Town debts or arrears

Applications must be submitted by December 31 before the first exemption year.

Brownfield Tax Incentive

Program Status: 2026 Applications Due December 31

Westlock’s newest incentive supports the redevelopment of brownfield sites—properties previously used for industrial or commercial purposes and impacted by environmental conditions.

  • For projects with $1 million+ in assessed value
  • Offers a 100% municipal tax exemption for up to 5 years
  • Must meet all environmental certification and zoning compliance requirements
  • Supports revitalization and transformation of underutilized sites

Projects must demonstrate significant investment and redevelopment potential.

Apply before December 31 of the year prior to your desired exemption.
