Public Hearings

Public hearings allow affected members of the public to provide their views to Council on advertised planning and development matters and other matters as determined by Council or as required under the Municipal Government Act.  Public hearings are formal hearings that allow anyone impacted by a proposal to address Council prior to a decision being made. Comments may be submitted in writing prior to the hearing or verbally during the hearing, and Council can ask questions of the people who are present. 

Public Hearings are advertised in the local newspaper and on the Town’s website for a minimum of two consecutive weeks prior to the Public Hearing. They are held at the beginning of regular Council meetings.. 

If you plan to attend a public hearing and wish to speak:

  • Public Hearings start promptly at 6:30 p.m. - ensure you arrive a few minutes early to ensure you do not miss your chance to speak.
  • Please ensure your presentation is organized and to the point. Time for presentations is limited to five minutes (additional time may be considered)
  • Council may ask you questions regarding your presentation
  • Once you have made your presentation and closing remarks, you will not have another opportunity to address Council, unless you are asked a direct question

The Town of Westlock Council will hold a Public Hearing for Bylaw 2025-12, to adopt the Aspendale Area Structure Plan (ASP).  The proposed ASP would established a framework for the development of the remainder of the undeveloped lands in the Aspendale neighbourhood (approximately 23.57ha/58.24acres).  

The ASP provides details on proposed land uses, transportation networks, servicing, trails, and park spaces. Future applications for rezoning, subdivision, and development within the plan area will be required to align with the proposed land use concept, be logical in their staging, and integrate well with the existing community.

The proposed ASP and information about the project to date are available on our website at www.westlock.ca/aspendale-asp. Alternatively, the proposed ASP may be viewed by the public at the Town Office during the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Town of Westlock Council will hold a Public Hearing to consider the rezoning of 9840 105 Street (Lot 15, Black 7, Plan 7432AN) from Low Density Residential (R1) District to Medium Density Residential (R2) District.  This will allow for the development of additional housing units on the property (up to 4 maximum).
