Community Events Committee

The Community Events Committee advises and actively participates in coordinating and promoting community events that showcase the Town of Westlock.  Committee meetings are held quarterly.

Emergency Social Services (ESS)

Emergency Social Services (ESS) is a community-based emergency response program that provides support during times of crisis. ESS refers to the services required to preserve the well-being of people affected by an emergency or disaster. The goal of ESS is to help people begin to re-establish themselves as quickly as possible after a disaster.
 

Municipal Planning Commission Board (MPC)

Your involvement with this board has a tangible impact on the future development of the Town of Westlock. The purpose of the Municipal Planning Commission Board is to review proposed development permits and subdivision applications. 

Meeting Frequency:

  • Meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month (as required)
  • Meetings take between 30 minutes to 1 hour

Responsibilities:

  • The MPC decides on all development permits involving a variance over 10% or a Discretionary Use
  • The MPC decides on all subdivision applications
  • MPC members serve an initial 4-year term, with the option to be reappointed by Council

Member Requirements:

  • No experience is required; training is provided
  • Members of the MPC must be a resident of the Town of Westlock
  • Members cannot be a Town employee or a member of the Town's SDAB

Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB)

Members of the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board hear appeals of development permits and applications.  Appeals could involve an adjacent landowner appealing an approved development, an applicant appealing a condition of their development permit approval, or an applicant appealing a refusal of a development permit application. 

Meeting Frequency:

  • Meets as required

Responsibilities:

  • The SDAB hears appeals on development permit decisions
  • The SDAB is responsible for conducting impartial, fair, and timely hearings
  • SDAB members serve an initial 4-year term, with the option to be reappointed by Council

Member Requirements:

  • No experience is required; training is provided
  • Members of the SDAB must be a resident of the Town of Westlock or Westlock County
  • Members cannot be a Town employee or a member of the Town's MPC

Town of Westlock Municipal Library Board

The Westlock Municipal Library provides input on the library's operations.

To volunteer to be a member of one of the above boards or committees, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete contact details, including place of residence. (This is a requirement for those positions that are for out-of-town residents)
  2. Describe why you are interested in the Committee position.
  3. The skills and knowledge the applicant brings to the Committee.
