Summer Road Maintenance

The Town of Westlock maintains all public streets, sidewalks, lanes, and trails within municipal limits, with the exception of Highway 18 and Highway 44, which are maintained by Alberta Transportation.

Our goal is to ensure a safe, well-maintained transportation network for residents, visitors, pedestrians, and drivers throughout the summer season.

What We Maintain

We assess concerns and schedule repairs based on severity and priority:

  • Asphalt repairs and pothole patching
  • Lane and alley grading
  • Sidewalk inspections and repairs
  • Street sweeping
  • Trail maintenance
  • Weed control in parks and green spaces

Please obey all posted signs and traffic control measures when crews are working. These measures protect workers and help us complete projects efficiently. We aim to provide advanced notice to affected residents and businesses ahead of major construction work.

Report a Problem

Quick repairs to potholes, signs, tripping hazards, and damaged infrastructure are a priority.

Crews perform asphalt repairs throughout spring and summer. Visual inspections and community reports help us prioritize critical areas.

Help us out: Report pothole locations using the online service request tool.

Back lanes are inspected regularly, and rough or rutted areas are graded based on need. Please avoid parking or placing materials in alleys to support smoother maintenance.

We regularly inspect sidewalks for trip hazards and damage. If you spot a hazardous section, please report it. Crews will investigate and prioritize necessary repairs

Each spring, residential street sweeping occurs and typically lasts four weeks.

  • Coordinated with waste collection—no interruption to garbage pickup
  • No Parking signs will be posted in advance
  • Remove any obstructions like driveway ramps, basketball nets, or carts

Vehicles parked during posted times may be ticketed or towed.

Our trail system is inspected regularly, and damaged sections are repaired throughout the season to maintain safe access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Our Parks and Open Spaces team manages invasive weeds in public areas throughout summer:

  • Spring: Dandelions in parks, greenbelts, and sports fields
  • July–August: Thistle and other noxious weeds across town

Residents are responsible for controlling weeds on private property, adjacent boulevards, and back lanes behind their fence line (if applicable).
