Motor vehicle collisions are a leading cause of head injury hospitalizations.
-
On average, 1,274 convictions occur annually for speeding more than 50 km/h over the limit.
-
Speeding fines double when passing emergency or tow vehicles with lights activated—you must slow to 60 km/h (or the posted speed, whichever is lower).
Stopping Distance Matters

Speeding: More Than Just a Fine
-
Nearly 1 in 4 fatal crashes involve unsafe speed
-
Even small increases over the speed limit reduce reaction time and lessen the effectiveness of safety features.
-
Demerit points for speeding range from 2 (under 15 km/h over) to 6 (over 50 km/h over)
-
Fines double in construction zones when workers are present, including those operating machinery near the roadway
